Chair of Bioprocess Engineering - Equipment

The division of the laboratories is based on the process chains of bioprocess engineering. There are chemical laboratories for the preparation of media, a strain maintenance laboratory (including preparation of precultures), two pilot plant halls and laboratories for fermentation (S1 approval), a downstream laboratory and an analysis laboratory. The chair owns the following cultivation systems:

  • Several bioreactors for submerged cultivation on a scale of 0.3 L to 100 L
  • One solid-state fermenter (Terrafors)
  • Special reactors for phototrophic emersion cultivation
  • Anaerobic workbench for shaking cultures
  • Various shakers (also coolable)

The analytical laboratory owns, among other things:

  • LC-MS-MS
  • Headspace-GC-MS
  • Several HPLC systems (DAAD, UV, RI, fluorescence)
  • 3D fluorescence spectroscopy
  • NIR spectroscopy
  • Confocal laser scanning microscope
  • Perkin-Elmer pipetting robot

In the downstream area, several FPLC systems, a crossflow system on a pilot plant scale and a high gradient magnetic field separator (HGMS) are available.
