Argus: Perspectives on instruction

(German title: Argus: Perspektiven der Instruktion)

The project “Argus: Perspectives on Instruction” builds on the scientific examination plus project “iLAB.pro”, focusing on the documentation of the preparatory teaching process during the introduction to a scientific experiment. After selecting a suitable laboratory experiment and establishing the measuring instrument, a list of criteria is formulated in five interrelated work packages, which is used to examine the video material to be produced.

Following the recording and post-processing of the instruction, a set of videos will be available at the end of the research project, together with the documentation process, which will ensure further didactic use over the duration of the project.

The 360° videos created as part of the project are then significant from two perspectives. They can be viewed by science students in the traditional way, for example for their own preparation and follow-up work, or as a link to the “iLAB.pro” exam plus project during the experiment using the smart glasses provided by the teaching department.
However, the project also relies on immersive VR playback. It is planned to make the material available as Open Educational Resources (OER) in conjunction with the observation criteria developed for teacher training courses, so that not only the instruction itself can be observed, but also the effect of methodological decisions from the perspective of a participant. In this way, the project contributes on the one hand to the continuous improvement of instruction in the context of subject-specific practical courses in the teaching field itself on the basis of proven “best practices”, and on the other hand creates subject-specific illustrative material for use in subject-specific didactic courses in the teaching profession for an examination of the methods of content transfer.
