Taster days for pupils at the BioVT department

On December 3rd, the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at the Kaiserslautern campus of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau organized the last “taster day” for this year: 30 Pupils from the “Gymnasium am Rittersberg” and the “Sankt Franziskus Gymnasium” in Kaiserslautern were given the opportunity to gain an insight into everyday university life and at the same time deal with technical questions. After an introductory lecture, three different experiments were carried out in small groups in the laboratories of the department:

• Colorful diversity - pigments from cyanobacteria and algae
• DNA isolation from fruit, preparation of a microbial fingerprint
• Process analytics - calculation and preparation of glucose solutions, sugar determination with the Reflectoquant system

During the lunch break, a free meal was offered in the cafeteria. There was also information about the Bio and Chemical Engineering degree program. Further information on our programs for teachers and students can be found here.
