Taster days for pupils at the BioVT department

On 2 July, the Bioprocess Engineering department at the Kaiserslautern campus of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau hosted the last "taster day" for this semester, which was attended by 29 pupils with advanced biology and chemistry courses from Are Gymnasium Bad Neuenahr (at the alternative location in Grafschaft).  After an introductory lecture, they were given technical and methodological insights into everyday laboratory life in the bioprocess engineering department in three experimental blocks. They calculated and prepared glucose solutions, extracted colour pigments from cyanobacteria and algae, isolated DNA from fruit and vegetables and produced their "microbial fingerprint".

During the lunch break, a free meal was offered in the cafeteria. There was also information about the Bio- and Chemical Engineering degree programme. Further information on our programmes for teachers and students can be found here (information only available in German).
