Taster days for pupils at the BioVT department

On 13 June, the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at the Kaiserslautern campus of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau organised the first "taster day" for this semester: 38 pupils from “Weierhof Gymnasium am Donnersberg” and “Leibniz-Gymnasium in Neustadt” were given the opportunity to gain an insight into everyday life at the university and at the same time get to grips with technical issues. After an introductory lecture, three different experiments were carried out in small groups in the laboratories of the department:

·         Colourful diversity - pigments from cyanobacteria and algae

·         DNA isolation from fruit, preparation of a microbial fingerprint

·         Process analytics - calculation and preparation of glucose solutions, sugar determination with the Reflectoquant system

During the lunch break, a free meal was offered in the cafeteria. There was also information about the Bio- and Chemical Engineering degree programme. Further information on our programmes for teachers and students can be found here (information only available in German).
