Taster days at the BioVT department

On February 20th, the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at the Kaiserslautern campus of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau hosted a taster day for 13th-grade biology students from IGS Rockenhausen. This event provided students with a unique opportunity to experience university life firsthand while engaging with technical and scientific topics.

Following an introductory lecture and an overview of the Bio and Chemical Engineering degree program, the students participated in two hands-on laboratory experiments in small groups:

• Colorful Diversity – Extraction of pigments from cyanobacteria and algae
• Process Analytics – Calculation and preparation of glucose solutions, sugar determination using the Reflectoquant system

After the experiments, the students enjoyed a complimentary lunch at the university cafeteria.
