BioVT feeds animals
We also do it like the big breweries. As part of the ‘Brewing Technology’ course in the winter semester 2024/25, the Chair of BioVT brewed various types of beer together with the students, as we do every semester. This year, an impressive 200 litres of home-brewed beverage were produced. Around 40 kilograms of malt were used in the production process, leaving moist spent grains as a residue at the end of the process. In recent years, we disposed these spent grains, although they are often used as supplementary feed for animals in large breweries. This year, the department got in contact with the wildlife park in Kaiserslautern in order to reuse our spent grains in a useful way. This has enabled us to start a small but excellent cooperation that not only helps the environment, but also keeps the animals happy. We are happy about this sustainable cooperation!
