Bee Club Inspires Children During Holiday Program
As part of the children’s holiday program, the Bee Club of the Department of Bioprocess Engineering at RPTU hosted two engaging afternoons, introducing numerous enthusiastic young participants to the fascinating world of honey bees.
The sessions began with an interactive presentation featuring vivid images and exciting facts about the bee lifecycle, life inside the hive, and the responsibilities of a beekeeper. The following Q&A sessions were full of curiosity—many children asked insightful questions, and some even impressed us with their knowledge.
Equipped with child-friendly beekeeper veils (a big thank-you to the Sickingen-Hermersberg Beekeepers’ Association for the loan!), the children then visited the Bee Club’s hive in the biology department garden in small groups. There, they had the chance to observe the bees up close and experience their first hands-on introduction to beekeeping.
During the creative segment, the children crafted bees out of pipe cleaners and made seed bombs—contributing to biodiversity and helping to combat bee decline. The afternoon ended on a sweet note: each child received a small sample of honey from the Bee Club’s 2024 harvest.
