Audience Award for Brewing AG

The Brewing AG of the BioVT department participated in the 12th International Brewing Competition in Hamburg last weekend. This international competition is regularly organized by the brewing group Campus-Perle from TU Hamburg-Harburg. The Brewing AG has participated in the competition multiple times. The group, consisting of four students and two employees, won this year's Audience Award in the voting among the participants for their presentation of their beer and its distinctive flavour. This year’s beer was a recreation of a historical Gallic beer, brewed without hops. To still give the beer its characteristic bitterness, hops were replaced with various herbs freshly foraged from the Palatinate Forest. Among the ingredients were mugwort, sorrel, as well as spruce and pine needles. These contributed to the beer’s fresh, forest-like flavor, which was met with great interest from both the judges and the audience.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to take the win for the best beer category, which was awarded to the Craft Beer Engineers with their double IPA. A total of nine teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland competed in Hamburg. The competition involved not only tasting the beers but also evaluating the beer stand and the beer's presentation during a talk. The motivation for next year is clear: to make it to the podium! Students and staff of RPTU are warmly invited to join the brewing team. If you'd like to participate in the Brewing AG and compete in next year's brewing competition, feel free to contact Jan-Niklas, Niklas or Janik from the Brewing AG.
