Young Scientists Discover the World of Microorganisms

As part of the 2026 holiday program, RPTU Kaiserslautern's "University Experience for Kids" offers a varied childcare program featuring exciting STEM activities, sports, and a wide range of campus experiences. The program is designed for curious children who enjoy discovering and exploring new things through hands-on activities.

The Chair of Bioprocess Engineering also contributed with the workshop "Bacteria, Fungi, Algae – Factories of the Future?". During an engaging presentation, the children learned about the many important roles that microorganisms play in everyday life and in modern biotechnology. The talk was complemented by interactive experiments on yeast growth, allowing the children to carry out their own hands-on investigations. To conclude the workshop, they sampled yogurt colored with blue spirulina powder and flavored with different aromas, and each child took home their own microbial fingerprint as a souvenir.
