The Chair of Bioprocess Engineering Participates in the Study Information Day 2026
The Study Information Day on May 13, 2026, offered prospective students an ideal opportunity to get to know the Kaiserslautern campus of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. At the information fair, featuring numerous interactive activities, visitors were able to talk with current students and gain their first insights into university life. The program was complemented by a variety of events such as laboratory tours, workshops, and open lectures.
The Department of Bioprocess Engineering (BioVT) was represented with an information booth where the microalga Microchloropsis gaditana was presented in a bubble column reactor as a special highlight. In biotechnology, the great potential of these microorganisms is utilized in many different ways: algae can be used, for example, for the production of pharmaceutically active substances and biofuels. They also play an important role in wastewater treatment due to their ability to bind nitrogen and phosphate. In addition, algae are widely used in the food and cosmetics industries.
Students from the Bio- and Chemical Engineering (BCI) degree program answered questions from interested visitors about studying and campus life. The department’s student groups, the Brewing Club and the Beekeeping Club, were also introduced. As an interactive activity, visitors were invited to taste honey produced by the Beekeeping Club. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to create their own microbial fingerprint.
Furthermore, Prof. Fabian Jirasek gave a presentation outlining the study opportunities in the field of bio- and chemical engineering.
