Tasting of the Student Semester Beers – Summer Semester 2026

Brauseminar SoSe 2026

On 9 July 2026, the tasting of the student semester beers took place at the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering. The event marked the final examination of the brewing practical course, in which the students developed, brewed, and evaluated their own beers over the course of the semester.

As part of the practical training, the students applied fundamental concepts of brewing technology, fermentation, and bioprocess engineering, covering the complete production chain from recipe development and raw material selection to fermentation, maturation, and quality assessment. During the tasting, the resulting beers were presented and discussed with respect to their sensory characteristics and the underlying production processes.

Several professors also participated in the tasting in their role as "shareholders of the Brew-AG" (Aktionäre der Brau-AG). Together with the other participants, they critically evaluated the beers with regard to aroma, flavour, balance, and overall quality, providing valuable feedback as part of the final assessment.

The tasting once again demonstrated the importance of combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, allowing students to gain practical insights into brewing science and bioprocess engineering while presenting the outcomes of their work in a professional setting.

Students and anyone interested in brewing science are warmly invited to join the next Brewing Seminar, which will start on 22 October 2026 in the winter semester. The seminar offers hands-on experience covering the complete brewing process, from recipe development and raw material selection to brewing, fermentation, quality assessment, and the final tasting. Further information, the course programme, and registration details are available on the RPTU Brewing Seminar website.
