Microorganisms – The Secret Superheroes!

On June 18, the third event of the RPTU Children's University lecture series took place in Kaiserslautern – with around 80 curious children and their parents diving into the fascinating world of microorganisms. The lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Roland Ulber from the Department of Bioprocess Engineering, who explained in an exciting and easy-to-understand way what microorganisms are, where they are found, and the important role they play in nature and our everyday lives. One of the highlights was learning how these tiny organisms act as “little biofactories” and can contribute to a more climate-friendly future.

An interactive experiment with yeast demonstrated what microorganisms need to grow and why they are true superheroes of science. As a special finale, the children had the chance to taste a unique blue algae yogurt with added flavor and create their own microbial fingerprint – a fun and personal keepsake from the world of invisible helpers.
