Exciting Girls' Day on Campus - Insights into Biotechnology and Cryptology

As part of Girls' Day, we welcomed 30 curious sixth-grade girls from Burg-Gymnasium Kaiserslautern to our campus. The girls started the day in two groups, switching after two hours so that each participant could experience both exciting workshops.

In the BioVT lab, the motto was 'No fungi, no pizza - biotechnology in the kitchen'. Here, the students learned all kinds of interesting facts about microorganisms - the invisible heroes of biotechnology. They investigated how different conditions affect the growth of yeast, marvelled at microalgae and cyanobacteria in colourful photobioreactors, and finally tasted the bright blue 'iLAB smurf yoghurt', coloured with natural algae pigments.

At the same time, the Ada Lovelace Project offered an exciting excursion into the world of encryption and ciphers with the workshop 'Escape Box - Cryptology: The key to secret messages'. In the spirit of Ada Lovelace, the pioneer of computer science, brains, logic and teamwork were called for.

A special highlight was the visit of an SWR television crew, who accompanied the students during their experiments. Some of the young participants were even allowed to go on camera and give interviews - an exciting experience!

We would like to thank the team of the Ada Lovelace Project for the great organisation and, as always, the excellent cooperation.
