13th International Brewing Competition in Hamburg
From September 26–28, 2025, the Brewing AG of the BioVT group at RPTU took part in the 13th International Brewing Competition in Hamburg. This international event is regularly hosted by the Campus-Perle brewing group at TU Hamburg This year, our group – consisting of two students and three staff members – entered with a traditional Oktoberfest beer. The Märzen (5.8% ABV, 16 °Brix, 20 IBU) was fermented with a bottom-fermenting lager yeast and brewed with a classic Märzen malt base of Pilsner, Munich, and Vienna malts. The beer was well-received, and the keg was completely emptied during the event.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough for the best beer award, which went to the Craft Beer Engineers with their IPA. In total, 11 teams from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland competed in Hamburg. The evaluation covered not only the taste of the beers but also the quality of the stand and the presentation during the talks. The goal for next year is clear: to reach the podium! We warmly invite students and staff of RPTU to join the Brewing AG. If you would like to take part in brewing and compete in next year’s competition, feel free to contact Janik, Iris or Moritz from the Brewing AG.
