OptAssyst

Funding

The joint project "OptAssyst - User-oriented assistance systems for the safe use of optical distance sensors" is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). It is managed by VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH. The project duration is three years.

Motivation

Due to the complexity of areal measuring instruments and the according standards, it is reasonable and important to support the user in conducting her measurement task correctly from the planning phase to the execution. By helping the user to do the measurements according to the standards, the results become comparable to other similar measurements, even when done using different measurement instruments.

Aim

The goal of the BMBF joint project “OptAssyst” is the development of a software-based user-oriented assistance system for the optical acquisition of technical 3D surface geometries. Using this software, the user should be enabled to make full use of her areal measurement system and to use it in an industrial production environment correctly. To achieve this, the measuring task, the grade of the user’s expert knowledge and the environmental influences are considered to give recommendations for the setup of the measurement system and the choice of the calibration strategy, as well as for the signal processing configuration and the most helpful parameters. Additionally the uncertainty budget according to GUM is compiled so the quality of the measurement can be assessed.
