Mechanical Process Engineering II

The fundamentals and basic operations learned in Mechanical Process Engineering I are deepened in this course. Processes and equipment for the separation, classification, comminution and storage of solids are presented. Apparatus such as thickeners, centrifuges, silos or filtration and membrane systems can be designed using the methods learned. The deformation and fracture behavior of particles and agglomerates is also covered. Furthermore, an insight into modern numerical methods in particle technology such as the discrete element method is provided. The application of such simulation tools is also explained in several exercises and can be tested by the students.

- Fundamentals of rheology and stability of suspensions
- Processes for classifying and sorting particles from fluids
- Microprocesses of comminution: contact and fracture mechanics of particles
- Modeling and simulation of mechanical processes
Course in winter term 2024/25
The lecture and the corresponding exercise take place exclusively in presence.
The required documents are expected to be made available completely digitally via the OLAT learning platform.
The access data for the OLAT course will be issued at the start of the course.
