Abstract

The development time for products in companies has become progressively longer, and the development effort required for the current products has increased multifold. This is mainly caused by the limitations of knowledge management within organizations which prevent proper creation, sharing, and leverage of knowledge that is gathered throughout the lifecycle of the product. In order to accelerate this, early joint value creation methods are being adopted, which involve knowledge modeling, which enables the transfer of innovations to product development in a more rapid manner. Knowledge modeling done for innovation is still being researched, which can enable us to store the knowledge within effective knowledge models that will allow the seamless transfer of knowledge to the development engineer. This work aims to provide a framework for knowledge modeling for innovation adopted from existing knowledge modeling approaches. Additionally, an initial and generic knowledge model for smart products, wireless chargers, in particular, is created.
