Brief Overview of the Department
The Chair of Computational Physics in Engineering was established in November 2019 and evolved from the Chair of Applied Structural Mechanics (April 2017–November 2019). It is headed by Prof. Kristin de Payrebrune.
The main areas of research include topics related to
- contact mechanics
- Friction
- Wear
- structural mechanics
of application-oriented problems from various disciplines. Based on experimental investigations, we develop models that describe the complex interactions within the system and enable predictions. The methods we use for this include:
- Experimental studies
- Numerical methods (FEM, DEM, FDM, CVD)
- Analytical models
