Winter Semester

Material selection methodology
Jun.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Moritz Liesegang
Lecture will be held in English
Content
A reasonable selection of suitable materials is essential for the success of a product. The enormous number of materials available still increases constantly due to research and development of new materials coupled to an increasing performance of every single material. Therefore, the process of materials selection is dynamic and has to be adapted to the current situation to ensure the success of products.

Power Ultrasonics
Jun.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Moritz Liesegang
Lecture will be held in English
Contents
Power ultrasonics is used in many technical fields, for example for cleaning, welding of plastics and metals, or accelerating chemical reactions. Its effects are based on high-frequency vibrations. For engineering students, this topic is relevant because it connects physical principles with practical applications. The lecture therefore covers the fundamentals of sound and waves, as well as the transition to specific energy transfer and material behaviour, up to technical implementation.
Students learn to solve vibration-engineering problems based on the physical and mathematical background of mechanical oscillations. They become familiar with the effects of power ultrasonics on sonicated media and materials, as well as its applications in current processes and relevant research projects. With the acquired knowledge, students develop an understanding of vibration-induced effects and learn to transfer these to other problem areas.
