Summary
Thomas Barth studied mechanical engineering (B.Sc.) at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, majoring in production engineering. In his bachelor thesis, he worked on the design and programming of a demonstrator for electronic cams using programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Since January 2022, he has been a junior researcher at the SmartFactoryKL technology initiative, where he is writing his master's thesis on the generic control of industrial robots using app-based control systems.
Research Fields
Thomas Barth focuses on the development of flexible and modular production systems. Here, concepts of service-oriented architectures, such as skill-based manufacturing, are used. Another focus is the implementation of universal interfaces, which are provided via the platform- and vendor-independent communication architecture OPC-UA.
