The morphology of a surface has significant influence on the behavior of impacting particles. In many particular processes, such as coating, spray drying or wet particle separation, liquid layers covered the surface affect the particle dynamics during contact. The aim of this work is to investigate the dynamic interactions of particles with wetted microstructures experimentally.
The collision of a single particle with different wetted surface structures is recorded with synchronized high-speed cameras and the rebound behavior is analyzed. The forces occurring in different contact scenarios between particles and the wetted surface are measured by nanoindentation. The particle impact is modeled in coupled CFD-DEM simulations to describe the effects that occur in the contact.
