Doctorate - What can I expect?

The doctorate usually results from a multi-year project, during which the doctoral candidate acquires specialized knowledge in a particular subject area through independent scientific work and demonstrates this knowledge in the form of a dissertation. In order to enable other scientists to access the research findings that have been created, the research work is documented by writing the dissertation.

During the doctorate, the doctoral candidate makes a contribution to research and teaching. In addition to working on the doctoral topic, workshops are organized in research and cooperation projects, national as well as international conferences are attended, and publications are produced. In the field of teaching, the doctoral candidate supervises lectures and excursions and provides support in conducting exercises and examinations.
