Biodegradable PLA/PBAT-hybrids
Due to limited oil resources and lack of CO2 neutrality, today, biologically based polymers such as polylactic acid (PLA), poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) are considered new materials to replace conventional polymers. However, since the requirements for components made of these materials in various applications cannot yet be met, intensive research work is currently under way worldwide to optimize the behavior of such materials.
A promising approach to improve the mechanical behavior is the incorporation of solid fillers, especially at the nanoscale. In this work, nanoscale SiO2 particles are compounded in PLA and PBAT blends. The aim of the study is to investigate the morphology, the morphology development, and mechanical behavior, especially the environmental stress cracking behavior, of PLA / PBAT nanocomposites prepared using different mixing techniques.
