Mechanical and Process Engineering at RPTU

Overview

As one of the largest departments at the RPTU, we offer a variety of different study programs to both Abitur graduates and students who already have a degree.

Our final education goal is the Master’s degree. Therefore, every Bachelor graduate in our department has a corresponding Master's study place available!!

The department offers graduates so-called undergraduate degree programs with a bachelor's degree (7 semesters).

In order to specialize and deepen the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's degree program, we offer various 3-semester Master's degree programs. Basically, our courses are scientifically oriented, i.e. the focus is on imparting basic and methodological knowledge. Through laboratories, internships, industrial lectures, excursions, etc. However, especially in the higher semesters, application relevance is established and industry knowledge is imparted.

In addition, you have the opportunity to design your studies individually and acquire additional skills through stays abroad, internships and student assistant jobs. You can find general information about the undergraduate degree programs as well as information on how to apply on the Information for First-Time Students and General Information and Recommendations pages.

Those interested in a Master's degree program can find further information about the application process on the Information for Master's Applicants page.

Bachelor Programs

Reach your first mile stone in 7 semesters

Modern and versatile courses in the areas of mechanical engineering (also with business administration), process engineering and biological and chemical engineering prepare you for direct career entry or - a clear recommendation from us - for the master's degree. The 6-semester bachelor's degree in metal technology teaching is the first step on the way to teaching qualifications for vocational schools and technical high schools.

German-French options

3 degrees in 1 study

In the bachelor's degree programs in mechanical engineering and biological and chemical engineering in combination with the respective master's degree programs, you have the opportunity to study for several semesters in France at the respected engineering schools INSA Rouen or ENIM Metz. Upon successful completion, you will receive the German bachelor's and master's degree AND the French Diplôme d'Ingenieur! From 2025 there will be another cooperation for the energy and process engineering degree program!

Master Programs

Get your Master’s degree in another 3 semesters

Our master's degree programs in the various disciplines of mechanical engineering build on the bachelor's degree programs or their areas of specialization. Thanks to the large elective area, the skills can be deepened or expanded in other directions according to your own taste. The 4-semester master's degree in metal technology teaching prepares you for entry into school service.

Studies abroad

Erasmus+ and Co.

Stays abroad via Erasmus+ and beyond are possible in all study programs. It is particularly recommended to stay during the master's program, as recognition is particularly easy there due to the wide range of elective requirements. Our Erasmus coordinator advises on all matters relating to planning and applications and provides support before, during and after your stay abroad.

Informations options

The RPTU offers a wide range of information options. The central point of contact is the Student Service Center (SSC), which provides you with direct information and names the right contact person.

You can receive specialist advice on individual courses in the field of mechanical engineering and process engineering from the specialist student advisory service.
