Institute of Materials Science and Engineering

hybrid materials engineering

The group investigates all aspects of the production, analysis and properties of composite and hybrid materials. We examine the use and application of modern joining methods as well as performing tests and analyses. We are currently experimenting with a range of materials, including light metal alloys and polymers, which can be joined by ultrasonic welding. The group exploits the special capabilities of ultrasonic welding to develop novel, sometimes unique, test and measurement systems. These systems can demonstrate the fatigue behavior of lightweight materials, including in the very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) range.
